Spotted Genet

Genets are long, lean carnivores with a tail usually at least
as long as the body. In appearance, Genets resemble elongated
cats, and can appear catlike, except for their longer faces.
They have a long, thin body set on short legs, and their ears
are large and rounded. Like cats, genets have semi-retractable
claws, and they can erect a crest of hair at the base of their
spine when frightened. Exclusively nocturnal and solitary,
genets are agile tree climbers and feed in the wild on mice, insects,
reptiles and wild fruits. They are extremely flexible and
agile, and can enter very small spaces.. |
Patagonian Cavy

Found in the
Patagonia region of Argentina's grasslands, cavies are known for
digging very long tunneled burrows. Their diet in the wild is
the various grasses and shrubs of the grasslands. In captivity
they are fed guinea pig chow, vegetables and alfalfa. Patagonian
cavies generally walk at a leisurely pace but can run rapidly
and hop as high as 6 1/2 feet. They live in groups of 15 to 40
in the wild. They clean themselves like cats and care for their
young for about nine months before separating from them. |
African Civet

The African civet has short, dense fur that is a greyish color,
with black spots arranged in rows along their bodies. Their legs
and about 2/3 of their tail is black, with about a third of the
base of their tail having striped markings. Their face is solid
grey except for a white muzzle and black markings around the eyes
that lead down the face. Their long necks have bars of white and
black running down the sides, usually one white bar enclosed by
two black bars, one above and one below. They have a short mane
of about 1-4 inches (3-10 cm) in length that runs along their back.
This mane becomes erect when the animal is frightened.

Coatimundi

Coatimundi have a slender, long head with a flexible,
trunk-like nose; Their small ears are rounded and hidden in
fur, with a black face mask. They range in color from
cinnamon, to red-brown, to chocolate-brown, with a yellow to
dark-brown belly. Their head and limbs have short hair, but
with thick, coarse fur on body They have a long tail, more or
less ringed. |
